Presently the HMC operates out of the ex-gymnasium of the Brunswick Street United Church, and the renovation is meant to overcome some of the short-comings of that very space. While the space serves well (enough) as a rehearsal hall, Peter Henry Architects (with Douglas Matthews Designer) set out to improve the room acoustics and to convert the space into a performance venue. An active flex-stage and acoustic torms were drawn to serve the various needs of the HMS while offering heightened listening and visiting experience. This allows the HMC the luxury of changing their venue capacity based upon the nature of the performance and the expected audience size.
